I have IE6.1 with all updates. About 2 weeks ago, an
annoying problem started where when I click on links and
select open in new window, the browse window is so small I
only see the "Back" button in the window, I have to max
the window or drag the window to make it larger. This
happens all the time, new windows appear in the exact same
place every time, etc.

I've tried the shift-click X, ctrl-shift-click X solutions
I've found on the net, but those dont seem to cut it.
This is reminescent of the old problems in windows 3.1
where you could modify window properties in progman.ini or
whatever.

Where is there a reg key or whatnot that is storing this
data? anyone?

Open such a link.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window.

That didn't work. Surely this is a setting that is stored
somewhere. A reg key, ini file, something, anything.
Anyone know?

Remove any 'Auto-hide' option for the Windows taskbar and while the window
is maximized, resize the taskbar then return it to the desired size. This is
to try to make Windows re-calculate the window size and boundaries.

If no joy, run regedit and remove these registry key values:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Desktop\OldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects

Then reboot.
