IE not opening

Betty

I am experiencing problems running IE 6 on win 98. The
program will not launch unless the home page is set to
blank. As soon as you try to access a site the following
message occurs:
Explorer has preformed an illegal operation and will be
shut down. Details. Explore caused an invalid page fault
in module unknown.
When you click ok another message comes up saying that
Microsoft Interned Explorer is experiencing problems and
will close.
I have updated the virus definitions and scans come up
clean, reinstalled IE, uninstalled programs that I thought
may be interfering and nothing seems to work.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

It may be that you have a hijacker on your system, or other malware or
spyware which is causing your problem. Try the information below and see if
this helps resolve the problem.

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this
newsgroup, but the the SpywareInfo or the Aumha HiJackThis forums
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30, to allow the experts there to
evaluate your log and advise you of the necessary steps to clean your
system.

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of the programs
below, download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Also, get a copy of WINSOCKFIX available at:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

Hope this helps
