ie missing files?

Was told my ie had missing files and was why I was having probs. Told to
reinstall and probs would be solved. When I try to install, it says I can't
because files are missing. Tried to download ie 6 4 different times and tried
every other method possible. Caan't reinstall over exiting or at set up
either, now what?
