Hi ... Here the story : Firefox fans and Opera fans want
you to use these browser , Ok I have and what I found out
is with these browsers you need to tweak and add plug in
to make they work good , I myself find all this
configuration as being bogus ... Yes they are more secure
then IE but thats because more hacker seem to go after
microsoft products , Its just a matter of time before
they go after these browsers , then we shall see how they
rank... All in all if you have an third party firewall ,
make sure you are recieving update definitions for your
anti-virus program , have a spyblocker program install ,
then i will say stay with IE because Internet Explorer
faster and far the best browser out there .... IE6 IS THE
BEST ... WAY TO GO MICROSOFT !!!!!!!

Wrong question. It should be, "Does Microsoft allow browsers other than
IE to access Windows Update?"

If you think that IE is causing or allowing spyware to be installed, why
don't you use something else? Or even better, why don't you take the
trouble to learn how to secure your computer?

Because you haven't secured your computer properly. Either that, or your ten
year old is a brilliant hacker, the likes of which the world has not yet
seen.

If more people used Mozilla, etc, you can be sure there would be more
malware written to exploit it, too. It just doesn't pay for the scumbags who
write the stuff to go after such a tiny percentage of the market,
particularly as they're well aware most PC users don't have a clue about how
to secure their machines.

I have no beef with other browsers & often use them, too. IE6 won't mow my
lawn, make me coffee, or otherwise be the be-all-end-all thing I'd like, but
it's fine if you lock things down in general.

I have both browsers on my machines and I manage a couple of webpages and
prefer IE. Lately I had to go to the Purolator site with Firefox and was
blocked because of compatibility issues. Also, I can't access my javascript
menus with Firefox. I also find it loads slower the IE.
I like the tabs and am still experimenting and discovering new features so I
may grow into it but for now NOTHING beats IE.

Hi

Experimentation - with a browser - doesn't hurt anyone. Faults will then be
picked up as compared to IE!!

Yep I agree , I like IE 6 as well , I have used Opera and Firefox didn't
care for them ... I never really did like Netscape either ... I been using
Internet Explorer for a long time , I have never gotten any malware or
trojan or what not , I did get viruses, but that was my own doing .... I
know for a FACT that IE loads webpages quicker and always shows all thats on
these pages not like those other browser ... Also Tab browsing is no big
deal either ... I can't see myself ever going else where when it comes to a
browser .... I know that when things happen to go wrong with these other
browser where do you believe these so call fans of Opera or Firefox end up
using ??? Do I need to say ?

All I had to do was install Java and FlashPlayer, but everything
else in Firefox works fine by default.

Wrong. For one thing, Firefox has no security "zones" like IE,
meaning that security can't be hacked/bypassed by a virus. In
other words, what you mark as "untrusted" in IE can always be
changed to "trusted" by a virus in order to wreak havoc. Also,
it's proven that market share (ie. popularity of something) is
NOT an indicator of security compromise. Do some research.

No, because Microsoft *actively* prevents them from doing so.
That's something out of Firefox's/Opera's control, and not an
indication of their worth. Any web page can deny access to any
browser if it's been told to do so.

Firefox and Opera have NO site restrictions built into them. However,
many webmasters specifically design their site for IE ONLY. Odd but
true.

Because your kids go to game crack/cheat sites, music sites that ask you
to install god knows what to view the page, etc. In addition, your kids
agree in the eula to put spyware on your pc. It's right there in black
and white. They may even have agreed to sharing your credit card and
telephone numbers to 20,000 new marketers.

Oh, they dont have your work number, do they?

Pray tell - how would you accomplish this??

Directions please!

who gives a good god damn?

The latest version 1.0 of Firefox fixes all of those problem, is as fast
as IE, and has no problems with javascript (and neither did 9.X).

I use IE only for .Net sites, banking, and administering my 2003
servers, I use FireFox 1.0 on several hundred other systems without any
problem.

With XP SP2 and even Windows 2000, you can get your updates
automatically, no need for Windows Update via IE any more.
