IE Homepae - Locked Need Instructions on how to remove lock?

Sometime ago, I locked my IE homepage but cannot remember how or where to go
back an unlock the homepage. Can you help me with this? Each time I go to
tools on IE, click internet options, general and attempt to manually change
the homepage, click apply, then click ok. The IE homepage remains locked to
my old web site, I cannot figure out what or where I went to lock this in the
first place. I feel a bit dumb having to ask this question for your help but
have run out of ideas, I have looked thru my firewall an spyware programs but
found no way to remove the lock thus far. Sincerely,Richard

Hello Wes,

I look at the following registry keys here -

They were listed or showed as 0 , I don't understand why this stupid IE
homepage conitinues to revert back to my old site, I simply cannot find
anyplace on my system where it is locked , I have completely uninstalled
spybot & spyware blaster, plus the setting on both were unchecked as to the
locking of IE. I installed Start Page Guard but it will not over ride this
original homepage setting either. I use OS Windows XP Home Edition, even when
I try to set my homepage to yahoo, once I set it an attempt to hit the home
button it continues to just revert back to my old cancelled web site for the
home page.

Wes, does XP home have any hidden settings that lock the home page? If so,
where do I go to check this?

Thanks,
Richard

FINELY ! GOT IT FIXED ! Wes, you help has been greatly appreciated, thank you
for not giving up on me with this issue of mine. The following is what step I
took to resolve this issue with my home page being locked (without your help
I wouldn't of gotten this issue resolved, Thank YOu!) >>>

If the issue is resolved, you have installed third-party software that
changed your Internet Explorer home page or code in the form of a malicious
attack, such as an unknown virus has been run on your system. One of the
startup items that were removed by using the clean boot method is causing the
issue. Any startup items that run Regedit.exe or a .reg, .hta, .vbs, or .js
file may be the cause of the issue. Leave any such startup items or suspected
third-party software turned off, and then continue troubleshooting with the
next step.
6. Click Start, and then click Run.
7. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
8. In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey, if it exists:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel
9. If the ResetWebSettings value or the HomePage value exists in this key,
right-click the values, and then click Delete.

Note You may also want to verify any Web site information contained in the
Default_Page_URL value and the Start Page value in the following registry
keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
10. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes to confirm the
deletion.
11. On the File menu or on the Registry menu, click Exit to quit Registry
Editor.
12. Repeat steps 2 and 3. If the issue is resolved, turn on the startup
items that you turned off in step 4 except for the items that may be causing
the issue for example, commands that run Regedit.exe or a .reg, .hta, .vbs,
or .js file. If the issue recurs, you turned on the startup item that was
causing the issue. Repeat steps 4 through 11.

and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Control Panel
Value Name: HomePage
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 0 or 1
0 = Not locked
1 = Locked

They were listed or showed as 0 , I don't understand why this stupid IE
homepage conitinues to revert back to my old site, I simply cannot find
anyplace on my system where it is locked , I have completely uninstalled
spybot & spyware blaster, plus the setting on both were unchecked as to
the locking of IE. I installed Start Page Guard but it will not over
ride this original homepage setting either. I use OS Windows XP Home
Edition, even when I try to set my homepage to yahoo, once I set it an
attempt to hit the home button it continues to just revert back to my
old cancelled web site for the home page.

Wes, does XP home have any hidden settings that lock the home page? If
so, where do I go to check this?

Thanks,
Richard

Sometime ago, I locked my IE homepage but cannot remember how or
where to go back an unlock the homepage. Can you help me with this?
Each time I go to tools on IE, click internet options, general and
attempt to manually change the homepage, click apply, then click
ok. The IE homepage remains locked to my old web site, I cannot
figure out what or where I went to lock this in the first place. I
feel a bit dumb having to ask this question for your help but have
run out of ideas, I have looked thru my firewall an spyware
programs but found no way to remove the lock thus far.

Wes, thank you so much, it wound up being my paid for version of Adaware that
was causing all of my troubles, just perminently removed that JUNK!

Kind Regards,
Richard

FINELY ! GOT IT FIXED ! Wes, you help has been greatly appreciated, thank
you for not giving up on me with this issue of mine. The following is
what step I took to resolve this issue with my home page being locked
(without your help I wouldn't of gotten this issue resolved, Thank YOu!)
If the issue is resolved, you have installed third-party software that
changed your Internet Explorer home page or code in the form of a
malicious attack, such as an unknown virus has been run on your system.
One of the startup items that were removed by using the clean boot method
is causing the issue. Any startup items that run Regedit.exe or a .reg,
.hta, .vbs, or .js file may be the cause of the issue. Leave any such
startup items or suspected third-party software turned off, and then
continue troubleshooting with the next step.
6. Click Start, and then click Run.
7. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
8. In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey, if it exists:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel
9. If the ResetWebSettings value or the HomePage value exists in this key,
right-click the values, and then click Delete.

Note You may also want to verify any Web site information contained in the
Default_Page_URL value and the Start Page value in the following registry
keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
10. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes to confirm the
deletion.
11. On the File menu or on the Registry menu, click Exit to quit Registry
Editor.
12. Repeat steps 2 and 3. If the issue is resolved, turn on the startup
items that you turned off in step 4 except for the items that may be
causing the issue for example, commands that run Regedit.exe or a .reg,
.hta, .vbs, or .js file. If the issue recurs, you turned on the startup
item that was causing the issue. Repeat steps 4 through 11.
