I've got a wierd situation. I have windows XP with a cable
modem. Last thursday 3/11 I lost all internet
connectivity. After getting the connectivity problem fixed,
I opened IE and got the message "The page cannot be
displayed". I did the usual tests, using ping and tracert
and everthing looked good.

I accidently clicked my outlook button, and it opened and
downloaded my email. But IE still won't work. I tried
Netscape and it works fine. I've deleted the hosts file so
that it can recreate it.

I'm out of options, I've tried everthing I can think of.

Can anyone help??????

Thanks,

Carl

Carl,
Most errors of that type are adware or Winsock related.

Hey Folks,

Thanks for the help, unfortunately, it didn's work. After
battling with IE I finally got it reinstalled, but I still
get the "Page cannot be displayed" or the "DNS error". As
soon as I open IE, it goes right to the DNS error page. It
seems that it doesn't even try to go out and find the page.
Could there be a hosts or dns file corrupted??? Netscape
7.1 works perfectly, but I'd rather use IE.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Carl

Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I have spy hunter and have run it
several times. The last 2 times it has found nothing. If
I've cleaned off the parasites, what file(s) do I need to
remove so that IE will work. As of today I still show no
parasites, but stil have the same problem with IE.

What do I need to do???

Thanks,

carl

No single anti-spyware program catches everything. Try the tools at Mike's
