IE gives no response when opening an URl

My Internet Explorer has been behaving very strange for a while now. When I
click on or type an URL it will sometimes take up to a minute before the
browser responds AT ALL. Nothing happens. This problem occurs quite regularly
now and it drives me crazy.
Nothing is wrong with my internet connection since my email will still work
when this happens.
Who knows what could be wrong and what I can do?
