IE fonts missing accent marks

My IE6 SP2 habitually does away with any character that has an accent or a
tilde, or indeed any non-standard character. It just shows a blank space in
place of the offending character. How can I repair this?

Make sure that you are using Auto-Select in View,Encoding?
(Alt-V,d,A)

If the font is not specified by the site make sure that the default
font that you have chosen for that type of text is complete. (Alt-T,O,Alt-n)
E.g. use the charmap utility to verify that the missing characters
can be rendered with it. If you're not sure if your font is being used
you can try forcing it to be used via the Accessibility dialog (Alt-T,O,Alt-e,s)

If you need more help post a link to a page which is giving you
the problem symptom and describe in detail your results
from doing the above checks.

Good luck
