IE Favorites order

My friend just got a new desktop computer. I helped him with some of the change over from his laptop. I exported his laptop IE Favorites as an .html file to a floppy. Then I put the floppy in his new desktop and imported the file into Internet Explorer. Worked fine. But yesterday he called me with a problem. Strange thing is that his Favorites stay in alphabetical order. He can rearrange the order and they look just great. But if he leaves the Favorites list, the next time he opens it again they are back in alphabetical order.

He uses Win XP and has IE 6.0. On his laptop he can change the order of the favorites and they stay that way. But on his desktop the order reverts to alphabetical whenever he leaves the Favorites list. Any ideas?

I had him do the Favorites listing order change using Favorites..Organize Favorites.. to change the order. And.. also just Favorites, and click and drag to a different order there. In both cases the order change shows correctly UNTIL he leaves Favorites. When he returns they are back in alphabetical order. If he does the same thing on his laptop the order change is permanent. Could the fact that his laptop entries were IMPORTED have anything to do with it?

Perhaps this will help -- sort of the reverse, but the same beast ..

sounds like the sort order is a mystery if it is not "sorted by name".

Hopefully that will help - try the following link for more information

By the way, it is preferred if you use plain text not html when posting
to the newsgroups.

Your response centered entirely on changing the Favorites listing to
Alphabetical. His problem is just the opposite. Sorry about the HTML post.
I had to change OE to HTML for binary newsgroups to be able to post
pictures/files. I forgot to click on Format and change to plain text for
this newsgroup. But your correction was a top post. If we want to be
"fussy" I believe bottom posting is the standard.

If "we wanted to be fussy", we would have read mine and noticed
that I did say it was the reverse but perhaps it would help ...
