IE Explorer 6 - "The page cannot be displayed"

Have been using IE6 forever and have had no problems. One moment it was
working fine but the next moment I am unable to connect to ANY site. My email
(Outlook Express) connects just fine...just cannot connect to any web
site...always get "The page cannot be displayed. I utilize a DSL connection
and have tried my back-up dial-up; Again, email is fine but unable to connect
with any web site. Any suggestions? Oh yeah --- I conducted a virus scan and
a spyware scan. No virus but some spywear. Got rid of the spyware but still
no help in solving my problem.

Hi,
I have the exact same problem, even though my system is xp sp2.
I can surf the net with firefox,
I can run windows update from the help center, but not from internet
explorer,
my system is up to date and scanned for viruses and spywares with the latest
signature files.
I repaired IE6 following the MS advice to reinstall sp2,
but still, IE6 is totally numb.
greetings

Hi,
Easy steps first...
A complete shutdown for about 5 minutes- computer(s), modem, router-
everything.

Delete the Temporary Internet Files folder and the History folder. See:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Run LSP-Fix from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm Read the instructions. You
may have to run LSP-Fix again after removing malware.

You may have a malware problem. Try CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
See: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on
that page.

If unsuccessful with those programs, you may have to post a HijackThis log
to one of the forums listed below. You will receive good help at any of
these forums. You might look for a forum that doesn't have too many
unanswered posts. You should also look for the proper forum for HijackThis
logs and a message along the lines of "Important- Read This First."

I heard that a very recent (Feb. 11 ?!) WindowsUpdate Patch solved this kind
of
problems. Tell me if it's true.
Tnx.
Marco.
