IE error: explorer needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience

I have my explorer crashing when I try to open certain webpages.
The error reads:
Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
App name: iexplore.exe
ModVer: 6.0.2900.2713
AppVer:6.0.2900.2180
Offset: 0001b810
Modname: wininet.dll

Can anyone help me correct this error?

Hi,
Wininet errors are often caused by corruption in the Cache or History
folders. Follow the appropriate (for your version of Windows) instructions
to delete the Temporary Internet Files folder and the History folder.

Hi Don,

Thanks for the explanation; after trying to manually remove the Cache, temp
internet files and history files, it still did not work.

However, one of your links contained a shortcut to an amazing freeware
program called CCleaner which automatically removed the corrupt files and
corrected the error.
