IE error and crashing with Windows XP

I keep getting "an internal error has occured and IE must
shut down." After clicking on Send Error Message to send
Microsoft the error the response is to download a newer
version of IE 6 with a link of
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6s
p1/default.asp When I tried to download this I get a
response that" the installation has not passed Windows
Logo testing to verify its compatability with Windows Xp,
this software will not be installed, contact your system
administrator." So nothing is resolved and I keep getting
error messages and am very frustrated. Can anyone offer
any help?
