IE desktop icon need help

N

Neo

I just finished deleting a customized theme and it changed my Ie icon
from the themed one to a white icon with a picture of a window with
three little icons inside it. instead of the default ie icon.
everything about my theme is back to its original xp state as i
intended it to be except for the IE icon on my desktop. also when i
click start and it pulls up the menu my help and support, search, and
run icons have the same problem. im running windows xp home edition on
a dell dimension 8250. i have already tried tweak ui to fix the icons
but doesnt work, even after restarting my computer.
ive also tried right click on desktop>properties>desktop>customize
dekstop> and checking/unchecking the internet explorer icon method to
try and reset it to no avail.
any help at all to fix my problem will be greatly appreciated.
thank you.

Neo,

TweakUI repair does not help, as the Theme settings are intact in the
registry. You stated "I just finished deleting a customized theme". So, try
reinstalling the Theme, and then do a clean uninstall (if the software has
an uninstall option). Then, revert back to the Windows XP Theme.

well the theme i downloaded long ago i cant seem to find it. was it a
mistake for me to remove it by using the add/remove programs method?
thats what i did and how i ended up with this blank icon instead of the
original xp style.
if i cant find the theme what are my options? if any?

Neo,

Uninstalling via Add/Remove Programs is the recommended method. So you did
nothing wrong.
I'm working on this problem, and planning to create a fix for this asap.
This is in my pending list for a long time.

BTW, where did you get the Theme from?

i found the theme, its a world of warcraft theme (a computer game). the
problem tho is the reason why i removed it was because after
downloading the theme and wanting to revert back to the windows xp
theme it couldnt. basically trying to revert back to windows xp didnt
have any effect and the icons from the theme took over. so i had to
come to the groups and ask questions and find methods to reverting back
to the default windows xp theme, and after finally finding those fixes,
i removed the theme from the add/remove programs list and am currently
in this situation. again any help is greatly appreciated and i thank
you for taking the time to figure the problem out.

Ok. I downloaded and installed the Stardock Warcraft Theme in my test system
here. Its "Theme Manager" supports reverting back to the Windows XP style,
and it does it very well.

Reinstall the Warcraft theme again, and then run the file ThemeMgr.exe in
the C:\Program Files\Object Desktop\ThemeManager folder. Then, choose the
option "Windows XP Desktop" in the list box, and then click Apply. If the
above does not work, terminate all other running programs, and try again.
Finally, you may uninstall the Theme from Add/Remove Programs.
