I have IE6 and win ME. All updates installed. When
trying to dl from some sites (Filefront, for example) IE
will instantly crash. If I switch the browser to Netscape
I have no problems. Likewise, on some sites I cannot
bring up a page with IE (instant crash) but can with
Netscape (most dl'd house lots for Vac at the EA site for
The Sims, for example). Last time IE crashed at The Sims
site I got told it had caused an "error in wiashext.dll"
but otherwise I have no clue what it going on. At
Filefront site, for example, IE just crashes and the
screen goes to desktop. What the heck is going on and why
does Netscape work and IE won't?

IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

or:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

Or possibly this parasite.

Known problem: Is suspected to cause software such as The Sims not to run.

Well, wiashext.dll is a legitimate windows file, so you can probably rule
out spyware. Assuming that the IE crash when downloading does not include
an error message we will assume the programme is simply closing. You
probably have a corrupt cache. Create a new one as per the URL below:

If these 'crashes' include actual errors, please provide details, otherwise
we are just guessing.
