IE canot display contents but YM and OE works

It's really weird, but there was a time when my computer cannot display the
contents of any URL eventhough I have an internet connection (DSL) and my YM
and OE works fine. A friend advised me to install Mozilla Firefox, I did and
everything became normal. I can surf again using IE. Why is this so? Is it a
virus, worm, adware or spyware?
