IE "cannot find site"

recently i cannot download from almost every site....I
can get microsoft updates, but cannot get stuff from
other sites. I get the followingmessage

Internet Explore was not able to open this internet
site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot
be found. Please try again later.

I tried to reload IE6 and.....got the same message.

Any ideas?

Could be virus/trojan, which has messed your host lookup. Open command
prompt and try ping with these problem sites. For example "ping
www.google.com". Ping should tell that google's address is 216.239.59.99.
With another pc do same thing. If you get different addresses, you have
virus or other malware causing problems.
