I am very frustrated. I've been trying to get onto one website which
I've always been able to do and for the last week or so I keep
getting this message. I have IE 7 and windows xp and everything is
up to date. I run McAfee security suite. I have tried everything on
the solutions page except for setting the computer back to the way it
was when I bought it. I would rather not do that. I have tried
deleting sp 3 and that hasn't helped. I've also tried deleting a
couple of the security updates for IE and that hasn't helped. Should
I be deleting IE 7 and going back to IE 6? I'm really needing to get
onto that site. It is just the one site. I can get onto others.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible you have some sort of "net nanny" software installed? You
know, those monitor programs that prevent access to immoral, perfidious,
treacherous, perverted, or sites involving naked vegetables.

ALSO:

IE tools internet options privacy settings

Are you somehow blocking the site?

IE tools internet options content

Is everything enabled?

I can still load sites like amazon and chapters. All my other book marks
seem to work except this one. I did try using an alternative user and the
same problem occurs. Do you know how one checks to see if it is McAfee?

Yes, Boot to Safe Mode with Networking. ONLY test the one site since
your security software isn't loaded. If the page loads then McAfee is at
fault.

Have you tried going to another site then clicking on tools followed by
diagnose connection problems?

I went to safe mode w/networking and it still did not load. McAfee was still
showing on my bar at the bottom. Does that mean it was still operating?

I just tried that. I get the same reading on a site that loads as on the
site that doesn't load. Thanks!

Yes the icon would indicate that McAfee is running. Usually, Safe Mode
omits any non-Windows services/drivers and applets from running. I'm
basically out of suggestions on what to try. This problem is now something
where only "Hands-On" access would help. I checked the site you are
having issues with and it is just a passive site ( No ActiveX or other type
of dependency ) for it to render.

Sorry I wasn't able to get you a resolution.

You verified a timeout is not occurring? Can you send yourself an email with
a link (the URL you're having problems with) then click on it when you
receive it? Also check your settings in internet options advanced tab.

Another quick check. Call your ISP to verify the URL is supported by the
server you are using.

What is a timeout? I'm computer illiterate!

I also have emails from them with links, but cannot get to them through that
avenue either. Same with google.

I've been able to access this site previously, so that shouldn't be the
problem, should it?

Thanks!

It is still possible. You don't know what your ISP may have done with their
server. A phone call can save you much time.

I contacted my ISP and this is what they sent me. It's "greek" to me.

Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, LLC.

DNSAUTH1.SYS.GTEI.NET
DNSAUTH2.SYS.GTEI.NET
DNSAUTH3.SYS.GTEI.NET

That domain is registered through Network Solutions, and the name servers are
not with us.

What am I supposed to do with that? Any suggestions??
