There may be someone here who can advise you on the problem if you describe
it.

I recommend you have the IE installer on hand BEFORE you remove IE. You'd
be surprised what's not gonna work without IE installed. In fact you may
want to have another browser installed or at least downloaded before you
remove IE. Try Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/ or Opera:
http://www.opera.com/.

1. Open 'Control Panel' and select 'Add or Remove Programs'
2. In the 'Add or Remove Programs' dialogue select 'Add/Remove Windows
components'
3. The 'Windows Components Wizard' will appear and IE can be removed from
there.

IE is an integrated part of the windows operating system. You really cannot
uninstall it unless it was an upgrade to an earlier version. Repairing
windows should also repair IE. Running system file checker should repair the
files which might be causing the problem with IE. To run system file checker
you would need the windows installation CD at the same service pack level of
the operation system that you are trying to repair or have the files already
on your hard drive. Doing a system file check first if you can or a repair
installation would be the easiest way of repairing IE. Always remember to
back up your important files and settings before changing your computer's
configuration whether installing new software or fixing operating system
problems. Check some of these articles.

I realised as soon as I saw the post that it would probably attract no-one
as it doesn't say enough to attrract attention, however it does seem that no
replies are really not that friendly. You guys should make allowances for
inexperience...anyhow I have solved the problem I had, which was a Microsoft
problem that I've now managed to get around, so that's good.

IE is NOT a seperate app. It's part of Windows.

Depending on the exact problem, you can try the following:

1) Locate and use "Winsickxpfix.exe" -- which would reset the Windows IP
stack (Winsock) to Microsoft's defaults.

2) Use a different browser other than IE6 (or variants)

3) Do a repair re-install of your XP. This would copy the original XP files
back onto your hard drive. You would need to re-do all service pack and other
updates.
Note: Backup your important files, just in case! Also, most Recovery
CDs do not work for repair re-installs.
