IE 6 Won't Open!!

I'm running IE6 (v6.0.2800.1106) on Windows XP, and it
won't open. Whether I click on the desktop shortcut, or the
..exe file in my Internet Explorer folder, the sandtimer is
displayed for a moment by the cursor, then disappears.
Evidently IE never even runs.

I can view websites through Explorer if, say, I open a
folder and type a web address in the address field, but
trying to open an IE window from that window (by right
clicking, or a pop-up) causes IE to completely crash.

I've scanned my HD with scandisk, House Call, and both
Spybot and Ad-Aware. I've also tried both removing and
reinstalling IE, but XP won't allow me to fully remove, and
attempting to reinstall just tells me that a more current
version of IE is on my HD, and closes.

Please, help me! I don't want to get stuck using Netscape!

you can start,control panal internet connections internet
advanced and uncheck enable third party browser extensions
apply and did you update spybot or adaware after
download and how about firefox from mozilla.org browser
only

I had the same thing 3 weeks ago,Norton didn't catch it
either,go to your add/remove programs...look for
iefeat,and deleat it if you have it in there it's a
highjacker,my adaware,spybot,spyhunter,spyblaster,norton
av all didn't catch it.I've gotten rid of my norton,and
mcafee on my laptop 4 CA,It was free for a year from
microsoft

from that link ,it caught 4 trojan also,but the iefeat
was what kept the IE from working ,learned to have an
extra browser,check out avant browser (it's FREE)too

from www.download.com it comes with a pop-up blocker
that works great for me,still use IE 90% of the time
though,just use avant when i'm going somewhere that's
notorius for pop-ups.The lovely IEFEAT came in on a
popup,I X'ed it out closed my browser and I was toast!

Thanks to everyone for youe help - I've got IE6 up and
running again!

thanks for the fix - ie opens without a problem now.
