IE 6 very slow

IE has become very slow lately. Some pages load 3 or 4
times more slowly than normal. I've noticed that it no
longer keeps my login name and password to any sites.

A week ago I got the worm W32.randex E, but Norton's was
able to quarantine it. Could it have messed up IE?

I bought some Internet software from Norton's and when I
try to download it a get a message that says "'Internet
Explorer
cannot download RTAcgi? from ziplock.digitaldriver.com"
So I think IE is hosed. What should I do?

Just to be sure, download and run this file to clean up anything that Randex worm may have done:

Spyware/malware can cause this symptom. Use Ad-Aware and/or Spybot Search & Destroy to remove it.

Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Spybot: http://security.kolla.de/
(Good site on how to install and use Spybot - http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/)

More information here:

http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/ - runs a little script when loading page to check for common parasites

If no joy, in IE go to Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab, Browsing section, uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions", click Apply, click Okay, reboot. If that solves your problem, then more troubleshooting is needed to find out exactly which program, or Browser Helper Object (BHO) is causing this problem. You don't want to leave it at that, as some BHOs are useful or necessary - like Adobe Acrobat for reading .pdf files or an essential component of Norton AV. Get BHODemon - http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm - read all about BHOs. Disable all items, and then gradually replace one or two at a time to narrow down the culprit.

Thanks Jon, I'll give those ideas a shot. I'm thankful
for your help since I was about to clean the hard drive
and start from scratch!
