ok, i want to uninstall ie 6.but the uninstall for it is not in the add
remove programs. i tried the installer to do the remove but doens't work.
What happens is when i click a link that opens up a new browser, the one
that pops up freezes and doesn't work. So i tried doing the usual spybot
adaware, virus scanner. Now i'm left with trying to reinstall IE. i also
went into add remove windows components and did that but no luck. How do i
unstall IE. windows xp pro IE 6.0.2800 xpsp2 with updates versions sp1
q3330994 q837009 q831167 (btw can't uninstall those either windows pops back
with an error msg saying can't uninstall ) thanks

Jason,

If you get an answer to this, please let me know! My IE6 is also not
listed in Add/Remove, but it stops at "0%" when I try to check for
Windows Updates. I've tried everything with no success (including a
WinXP "repair"). Removing it from Windows Components in Add/Remove only
removes the desktop/Start menu shortcuts to IE, I believe - won't remove
the program at any rate... My IE6 is the same version with the same
patches except for Q832894 instead of the Q3330994 you list.

Hmmmmmm....could that Q3330994 be Q330994? Normally 6 digits, not 7...

Best of luck to you - well, both of us!!

I've had the same problem and fixed it with a reinstall.
I have a little script that'll reinstall IE from the CD. Afterwards just
visit WindowsUpdate.
Mail me, and I can send you the script.

How do I repair Internet Explorer in Windows® XP?
Revised - 03/03/2002

The ability to Repair Internet Explorer does not exist in the version that
ships with Windows XP. This feature only becomes available after you
upgrade to a newer version. This is normal and has been this way since
Windows 98 and IE4.

However, you can reinstall IE in Windows XP by clicking Start, Run and
entering the following command:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\Inf\ie.inf

You will need to have your XP CD available.

Some people have problems with the command line above. A small VB Script
that will execute the command for you can be downloaded here. Save the file
to your hard drive and double click it to run IE Setup.

Kurt,

I've tried the "ie6setup.exe" from Microsoft, but it won't run because
"A newer version is already installed". "Jason" sent me a run cmd that
did work, although I couldn't get the installer to locate various files
on the CD (did a manual search of my HDD, located the files, and entered
the locations into the location window). Install went fine (I can tell
as the patches that had been installed previously were no longer
present). Tried WindowsUpdate, and no joy - still stops at "0%" as
before. Went to BigFix, downloaded and installed 2 patches, and that
went fine. IE6, however, still does not appear in Add/Remove Programs,
except for an IE6 patch.

Back to square 1 - review all suggestions received to date - retry the
"cures", and see what happens.

Thanks for the help, tho!
