IE 6 Suddenly slow as a snail

I am on a cable modem and IE has suddenly slowed down. I
have run sypware & adware, have a firewall and as well
ran antivirus. Also defraged the hardrive. Called my ISP
and the modem speed is fine. I did have Firefox loaded
for awhile and was using that, but deleted it to go back
to IE. It is running very slowly loading pages and
downloading files. As well it seems the default settings
have changed in regard to media files. Could Firefox have
caused this? and if so how do I bring it back to normal?
Would downloading IE 6.0 and reloading it solve this? And
if I do that will I lose my favorites? Please help, this
is driving me crazy. Thanks, edmondb

"""I have run sypware & adware"""

that says why you are slow. spybot version 1.3 at
safer-networking.org or ad-aware at lavasoftusa.com
update both before scan.
and check in tools options to see that ie ,etc. is your
default programs

It is a SP2 problem.
My IE6 isn't functional at all, but Mozilla works fine. I
could live with this but I need IE6 for updates. I've been
told to uninstall SP2 and wait for microsoft to fix it!
(sometime next summer probably!)

I have not loaded SP2 so that can't be the problem.

So are you telling me that Spybot & Ad Aware are the
problems? And if so should I stop running them? I have
now started running Spy Sweeper. If Spybot & Ad Aware
have caused this how do I fix it?

I am having the same problem. I loaded SP2 and my IE6 worked fine for a day
or two. Then it slowed down to a crawl (unusable). I am going to unistall
SP2 and see if it goes back to normal.

Hi brfisher :)

There are various types of scumware that can remain hidden on your system
and is exposed by the SP2. You may have a hijacker, malware, spyware or
parasites on your system
causing this problem. Thus, in addition to running your updated anti-virus
program, you should do the following to be sure none of these are present on
your system. Although you may have already run one or more of the programs,
please do so again according to the instructions below. Some variants of
malware can replicate themselves over and over if not removed properly.
Please follow all instructions carefully to be sure your system is
thoroughly cleaned:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this

to allow the experts there to evaluate your log and advise you of the
necessary steps to clean your system.

Also this program searches for hidden .dlls that recreate the malware.

below, download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:

(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

(If you download and use the updater from the beginning, it will

and......

NOTE: If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning
capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of the other computer called
HOLD, download the programs to that folder, then burn that folder to a CD.
Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them. After you have IE access again, update all programs where
possible to get the latest definitions and run them again in Safe Mode to be
sure there are no lingering items on the system.
