I manually removed some entries in the registry based on
the feedback given by SpyHunter (free download) since I had
parasites on my machine and lo and behold, my IE works no
more. MSN Explorer works fine and so does Netscape.

I am on XP and have all the latest patches installed. I am
unable to uninstall IE as well. Attempts to uninstall only
removes the icon from the desktop and Quick Launch.

I downloaded IE 6 SP1 from Microsoft and it says that I
have a more recent version and that the installation cannot
proceed.

Help please...

I don't know how spyhunter works. On Ad-aware & Spybot, there are options
to quarantine list. You can go there and reinstate the items you removed.
These programs remove the items by quarantining not fully deleting. You can
reinstate one at a time & see if that gets the program running again. Can't
help with Spyhunter, I don't use it. But look for quarantine, or something
like that.

If you alter the registry as explained in article 318378
you will then be able to install IE6 SP1.
