IE 6 Sluggish

B

Bill Lee

In the last couple of weeks, my IE6 with SP1 running on
WinXP Home SP1 has become sluggish in loading pages. It's
not my ADSL connection, as IE6 on another computer
connected thru the same hub and modem is much faster.

Any ideas how I can correct this?

Much appreciated! ..Bill..

Rule out parasites that may be calling home while you wait.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

and:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.

Hello Henri!
Thank you very much for your detailed reply. Very good
ideas. I have run Spybot S&D from time to time for
awhile, I reran it and it didn't find anything. I also
downloaded AdAware and ran it, it found 3 cookies which I
deleted. Turning off 3rd party extensions also had no
effect.
To describe the symptoms in more detail: When IE6 loads
my ISP's home page, I can see the little graphic items
loading in the status bar--a slow count-down 29, 28, 27,
etc., items remaining.
So I'm still stuck. Very interestingly, I see two other
recent posts with the same complaint.
Thanks again!! ..Bill..
