IE 6 History

V

Vince

Whenever I delete the history thru "internet options" it
will delete the items in the current browser but if I
close the browser and re-launch it the history items are
still there (all of them).I'm using IE 6 and XP home
edition.Day's to keep history is set at 0 also.Any ideas
what the problem is?
Thanks
Vince

I had the same problem and in fact posted a question on
Aug 6 about 9:30 am. I tried this and it not only worked
but once having cleared from the control panel I could
then clear from the usual properties screen -- ie the one
you get by right clicking the IE icon and going to
properties. No idea what happended -- but it worked.
Thanks

I've tried that Frank.Sometimes it works sometimes it
does'nt.Any other ideas?

Sign on as Administrator and delete the entire History folder for your User
profile.

I now see that I am considered "Computer
Administrator".Still can't locate the history folder. If I
do delete the history folder will it return upon reboot?
Am I to assume the history folder is corrupt?
Thanks....Vince

By deleting the whole folder you also delete the well hidden Index.dat in
the folder and start over with no corruption in the History folder.

I'll try again but isn't that what I did per Franks
instuctions? Sometimes it will clear sometimes it
won't.Seems to be a problem with quite a few people.Should
this also be done in safe mode?

Vince,
Possibly your History folder is corrupt:
[XP\2K]
Log on as Administrator and delete the desired <username> folder(s).
[example]
"C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\HISTORY"

The only way I can log on as administrator is in safe
mode.If I just log off thru the start menu I'm the only
user shown on the screen to log back on.It's only set up
for one user. Now if I go to safe mode I can either log on
as administrator or as vince. What did I do wrong when I
set this up? It's a new computer with XP pre-installed.I
just started it and followed the directions. Can you point
me in the right direction? I'm a bit confused at this
point.By the way I did go into safe mode (again) and
deleted my history folder.Am I considered Administrator or
do I just have Administrator rights?
Thanks for your time.......Vince
