IE 6 Freezes upon opening! Google Toolbar a suspect...

B

I'm having some troubles with my internet explorer version 6.

Occasionally I will open up a brand new window and it will freeze.
Windows Task Manager reports that IE is running, but there will be no
response from the browser when trying to close it, or press buttons or
anything.

Ending the IE task and trying to start it again doesn't help, it just
freezes again. I have the latest version of the google toolbar
installed, and I figured out that by uninstalling it, this problem
goes away. However, I am really attatched to my toolbar and I have to
reinstall it again.

Upon reinstalling, the internet will still work for a few days, and
then it will randomly freeze again. I am getting tired of uninstalling
and reinstalling Google Toolbar, and I was wondering if anyone has a
solution to this problem?

Help would be appreciated,

Dammit. Will you stop freezing the Internet? You are causing the rest of us
no end of trouble...

On a more serious note; if the Google Toolbar is making IE go belly up, lose
the toolbar. I have never seen a BHO that I really like.

Since it's the Google toolbar that is seemingly causing your problem - also
post this issue to their support group -
http://groups.google.com/group/IEToolbar-Group

If no joy, contact them directly -
http://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/request.py

You could try and turn off some of the toolbar's features - starting with
Page Rank on the More tab of the toolbar's Options. Also, if you have IE
6/XP SP-2, go to Tools...Manage Add-ons, change Show: to "Add-ons that have
been used...." and disable a couple things at a time to see if you have any
other add-on to IE that may be the cause. Start with non-Microsoft objects,
and leave anything alone until last that deals with any anti-virus or other
security software you may be running.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

You are not alone. All of the suggestions are well intentioned , but usless.
Masterfull guesses, but in reality they haven't a clue.
So far I have been able to restart and clear up the problem. Sometimes the
IE6 diagnostic menu choice disappears so I cannot run it, however once it
tried to tell me that it had something to do with the firewall. As long as
the famous "OK, when all else fails, reboot!" works I'll use that method
until someone figures out what's wrong and posts it here. If you had a car
failed this often what would you do? Microsoft will not admit that they have
losey software. They just blame it on hackers and other software programmers
ro viruses.

Your suggestion about the problem being the google toolbar will be
investigated. The problem seems to be in IE6, because the Express mail still
works when the problem occurs which means that the IP connection is still
good. I will let you know the out come of the Google toolbar removal.
