Try this little utility and see if it will do what you want:
FavOrg: To save Favicons - Free

This allows you to save them permanently in a different folder and
re-associate your favorites with the stored icons. It also verifies whether
your links in Favorites are still good.
Also, to do a full or partial delete, you can go into Windows Explorer>your
User folder and look for the Favorites folder open it, select Edit on the
toolbar>Select all and delete them all, or hold down the Shift key and
select the ones you don't want and delete them that way.
