IE 6 does not function anymore

G

Guest

I already posted 2 days ago that my IE does not function anymore correcly. I
tried everything I was told but nothing helped.
I have IE6 SP1 on W2K SP4 (see post 'IE 6 hangs by opening a new window
1/31/2006 2:39 PM PST')

The problem is easy to describe: Each time I click on a link from within IE
and and this likk will open a new window I get an empty Window skeleton. The
Globe is spinning, the Menus and toolbars are there but the frame body is
transparent.

The same happens if I click on a link out of Word, Outlook or any other
program that will call IE, The window is an empty skeleton.

The only possible way to see websites is to enter the URL directly into the
Addressbar or click on one of my bookmarks. There the page is displayed
correctly. If I follow a link within a correct displayed website and the new
link will be displayed in the same window, everything is normal. Again only
if a nbew Window is opened.

At this point, I am extremly frustrated. In the meantime I installed Firefox
but I still would like to go back to IE.
I tried to figure out how to uninstall IE from my system and install it new
again but I could not find how I can do this.

Any help ar suggestions are gladly appreciated,

Ollie

Hi Ollie :)

Try the following and see if it helps, as it applies to your OS..and if you
can't access the suggested lonks then use another computer to do so and
print out the inforamtion to use for your machine.

Blank - Empty - White Pages

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom Levels> Check to Enable "Allow
META Refresh."

Go to Start>Run> and register the following dll's by using
regsvr32 command. Try the first 2, then see if it resolves the problem. If
not then register the rest of the .dll's:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll

If that doesn't work, then check out the following article and do the
additional steps outlined
there:

probably in the Win98 (i386 for WinXP) folder of your installation CD-ROM

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System (C:\Windows\System32

Again thanks a lot.

You're very welcome! I'm very glad to hear you were able to resolve your
problem. Good job!

Occasionally some files will become tweaked in use, so you rerigester them
via the method you used, or...sometimes they may need to be replaced.

Thank you very much for posting back and letting us know what worked for
you, and for the benefit of other readers who might have a similar problem.

I'd just like my thanks to you too. My IE6 also wouldn't connect to sites
for the last few days, virus and spyware unlikely as I keep it up to date
but I did full scans and tried a few extra tools too. I was considering the
uninstall/reinstall route but saw your post so tried re-registering the
library files you listed. And it worked.

Thanks for saving me all the effort and time of reinstalling. Very much

How to make a good newsgroup post:
http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

I already posted 2 days ago that my IE does not function anymore correcly.
I
tried everything I was told but nothing helped.
I have IE6 SP1 on W2K SP4 (see post 'IE 6 hangs by opening a new window
1/31/2006 2:39 PM PST')

The problem is easy to describe: Each time I click on a link from within
IE
and and this likk will open a new window I get an empty Window skeleton.
The
Globe is spinning, the Menus and toolbars are there but the frame body is
transparent.

The same happens if I click on a link out of Word, Outlook or any other
program that will call IE, The window is an empty skeleton.

The only possible way to see websites is to enter the URL directly into
the
Addressbar or click on one of my bookmarks. There the page is displayed
correctly. If I follow a link within a correct displayed website and the
new
link will be displayed in the same window, everything is normal. Again
only
if a nbew Window is opened.

At this point, I am extremly frustrated. In the meantime I installed
Firefox
but I still would like to go back to IE.
I tried to figure out how to uninstall IE from my system and install it
new
again but I could not find how I can do this.

Any help ar suggestions are gladly appreciated,

Ollie

One problem- the popup blocker no longer functions although set to high and
the exceptions list cleared- popups that were blocked no longer get stopped.
How can this function be restored?

I'd just like my thanks to you too. My IE6 also wouldn't connect to sites
for the last few days, virus and spyware unlikely as I keep it up to date
but I did full scans and tried a few extra tools too. I was considering
the uninstall/reinstall route but saw your post so tried re-registering
the library files you listed. And it worked.

Thanks for saving me all the effort and time of reinstalling. Very much
appreciated.

Hi Ollie :)

Try the following and see if it helps, as it applies to your OS..and if
you can't access the suggested lonks then use another computer to do so
and print out the inforamtion to use for your machine.

Blank - Empty - White Pages

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom Levels> Check to Enable
"Allow META Refresh."

Go to Start>Run> and register the following dll's by using
regsvr32 command. Try the first 2, then see if it resolves the problem.
If
not then register the rest of the .dll's:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll

If that doesn't work, then check out the following article and do the
additional steps outlined
there:

also..

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following
message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If you are using WinXP try this:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_Default_Browser.reg

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (msconfig for WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk' ("Expand File" for
WinXP).
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which
is
probably in the Win98 (i386 for WinXP) folder of your installation CD-ROM
(typically D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs (Windows\i386 for
WinXP) folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System
(C:\Windows\System32
for WinXP), and click OK. System File Checker (or msconfig) looks for the
file, saves it as you requested, and then tells you that 'the file has
been
successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.

I found the issue a few days ago so if anyone else comes across it here's
the cause. You need to edit the registry for the problem site and make sure
the key is present and set correctly- the key was present but no setting for
it in my registry.
HKEY_USERS\(your ref)\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\*****domain name*****
REG_DWORD should be 4. (all other keys have this value.
