IE 6 Cookie Problem

Sylvia

Windows XP MCE, Internet Explorer 6, Norton Internet Security

I installed Yahoo Toolbar, did not care for it, and uninstalled. After
uninstall I could not open my Norton Internet Security. I, then,
uninstalled Norton Internet Security and re-installed. Since this, I
have been unable to reach my start up page, Excite.com, using Internet
Explorer, Firefox or Opera browsers. When I click my excite I see my
start up page but it immediately switches to this site:
http://www1.excite.com/security/0,17167,,00.html The browser you're
using is not allowing you to sign in to Excite
I do not have any problems with any of my other sites that require
cookies. I do show a cookie for excite.com and my other security
settings are correct. All Windows updates are installed. Does anyone
have any other suggestions for what I should look for. Thank you.

Hi,
The Excite error/security page also mentions Javascript. Reinstalling NIS
may have caused default settings to return. Look through NIS settings and
make sure that NIS isn't blocking scripts, scripting, active content.

Go to Internet Options> Security> Internet Zone, set it to Default. That
should enable Javascript in IE. Check your Javascript at
http://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/go/EXPLORIT/java/IntroJavaScript.html

Are you sure that the Yahoo toolbar is gone? Check Control Panel> Add or
remove programs. The Yahoo toolbar is notorious for blocking pop-up or new
windows.

Deleting existing Excite cookies may help.

Hope this helps,

Hi Don, sorry that I am so long acknowledging your reply but I have
been trying everything to no avail. The help from NIS has not been
able to correct the problem. I think my files got all messed up when I
uninstalled the Yahoo Toolbar. It is not displaying in the add/remove
files and I don't know what other files to look for. As much as I hate
to, I think I am going to have to restore my computer to it's original
state and start all over. Again, I really appreciate your help and
time.
