IE 6/7 opens minimized on taskbar then fades off screen

At first I was using IE 6, and it started doing this weird thing where when I
clicked the icon either in programs menu or the desktop shortcut, it would
open IE but in a minimized state. Then I'd click the tab to maxmize the page
but it fades to the right off screen and won't open the page. So I tried
downloading IE 7, to see if that fixed the problem and it still does the same
thing.

So now, I'm using FireFox, but I'd really like to get back to using IE 7
because I can't do online job applications with FireFox.

Hi David,

Sounds like you have a nasty add-on? Try opening IE7 in no Add-ons mode.
Either select the Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Internet Explorer
(no Add-ons) menu option or enter "IExplore.exe -extoff" (no quotes (")) in
the Run dialog.

If this works then you will have to find the offending add-on and un-install
it.

If this does not work, then I suspect that you have recently changed your
screen display size or the IE7 shortcut.

Right click on the IE7 shortcut icon and select "Properties" from the
drop-down menu. Make sure that the Run value is "Normal Window"
or
Start IE7.... let it disappear off your screen.... Start Task Manager
(Ctrl+Alt+Del) and find the IExplore.exe instance in the Application list...
Right click and select Maximise from the drop-down menu.... IE should open
full screen and be visible to you. Close IE by clicking the "X" button on
the rhts. The next time you start IE7 it should open filling your screen.
You can then resize the window to your preferences and then save the size
and position settings by closing the IE window.
