IE 6.0 Pop Up Problems

I am running Windows XP and IE 6.0. Here is the
problem. When i go to a web site and click on the link
that usually would open another window, IE freezes and
nothing happens. Also, at the same time i noticed that i
am unable to open folders that are on my desktop, which
is really strange. I double click the folders but
nothing happens! When i open the folders through Windows
Explorer i can open them alright! I have couple of files
(not folders) on teh desktop and those i can open ok.

PLEASE HELP
