Using windows xp- IE opens and displays "cannot find
server" message at top of window and "page cannot be
displayed" in window. Netscape works, can access internet
through "My computer" address bar. Works until a site tries
to open a new window and same problem occurs. Unable to use
Windows update. Have reinstalled IE 6 SP1 from cd just
ordered from Microsft. Have tried recommendations from this
forum including ipconfig release and renew, ping tests
(some sites went through, others not), disable 3rd party,
repair connections utility. Did discover that program
winicfg does not exist on my computer. Bought Norton
SystemWorks 2004 and found many viruses. Norton says system
is clean now. Also used CWshredder.Been fighting this for
about a month.PLEASE HELP. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I Have been fighting the exact same proble. I continually
run a firewall and anti- virus, still having the proble. My
ISP, earthlink is also unable to update, as well as my
Mcaffe virus scan, It says it to cannot find a connection.
If you find a good answer email me at poilandscaping
earthlink.net I wonder if this is a microsoft proble? I
have seen many people having the same trouble. How can we
get tham to address this problem? Anyone with ideas??? My
netscape works fine as well, but i would rather use IE 6.
