Identifying COM/LPT ports

How do I know which ports are (physically) connected to what periferals?

I have three printer/plotters, two connected through multi-prong
connectors and one through USB.

The USB-connected printer is ok as is my original printer. My plotter
will not print even though I can 'send' it a drawing.

System devices identifies:
LPT1
COM1
COM3

How do I know which is which?

You could, through a process of elimination, unplug each
one, then test each one, one at a time. That will get you
the information you want.
