IDE drive in a Netfinity 7100??

Bob

Not sure whether this is the right group or not but seemed the closest....

I just got myself a Netfinity 7100 server with 2 x 36 Gb SCSI drives. There
are 4 more open bays on this.

I need to add more storage. I know there is an IDE controller in this box -
that's what the CDROM is on.

My (possibly stupid) question: is there anyway I can stick a standard IDE
drive in there?

Any pointers appreciated....

[Don't do it.]

BTW What OS are you using?

The box currently runs Windows 2000 Server SP4.

First, is this even possible? If yes, why not?
The price of equivalent size SCSI disks is really high - which is my
motivation...

There will be no problems as long as Win2K sees two PCI IDE channels in
Device Manager, and the BIOS configures them for UDMA.

Win2K sees 1 Primary IDE Channel, 1 Secondary IDE Channel and a Standard
Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller. Is this what you are talking about?

Should work fine. You may have some issues with drive addresses. I am
not sure how it will map master 0 on the IDE. It might bump the SCSI
down

Sure, why not? If it's got IDE,then just install the new drive on that as
master and change the CD drive to slave.

just out of interest have you followed the cd-rom's data cable? to see where it
goes?
you *should* be able to add to it if you get a data cable that has an adapter
'plug' (attachment) in the center and on both ends (1 for the cd-rom, 1 for the
ide hd (i assume this is what you want) 1 on each end) and the center adapter
fits into the ide controller (on the board)

have you checked ibm's support page?
here?

Software and device drivers - Netfinity 7000/M10, 7100, 7600, 8500R

you have to enter a code (for your netfinity which i do not have...)
