I'd like an option in Outlook to detach and store attachments

With the limits that employees place on exchange mailboxes and the pressure
to keep mailboxes to a minimum it would be great if there was an option in
Outlook to detach the attachment and store it in a single (compressed) folder
or database. Once detached, Outlook should then place a hyperlink within the
e-mail to the detached file.

We (users) often keep attachments within an e-mail so that we know what we
have received and from whom. It also allows us to identify the purpose of the
attachement because it's associated with the content of the e-mail.

What would relally be neat is if the folder or database where the
attachement was stored could also refer back to the e-mail (with a hyperlink,
or something similar). This would allow for better tracking of attachments.
When attachments are simply detached into a folder it's easy to forget why
it's there and who sent it.

The end result would be a much smaller and easy to manage mailbox.

See if anything here helps:

I don't think you'll be able to find anything that links the detached
attachment in the file system back to the email. You might want to look into
enterprise-level archiving solutions for more options.
