i have a small home network with 3 winxp pro pcs connected via a network
hub. the problem that i have is with the 2 client pcs accessing the internet
via the host pc. when i surf the internet everything seems ok until i try to
access a site that is related to microsoft, including microsoft homepage,
windows update, and even hotmail. i can still navigate to other sites and
they load up all ok.

can anyone solve or heard of this problem??

thanks, chris

On the clients, see if the Hosts file contains entries for the sites
that you can't reach. If it does, remove those entries. To edit the
Hosts file, use this command, being sure to include the "." at the
end:

notepad C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\Hosts.

If that doesn't help, do you have a shared DSL Internet connection
that uses PPPoE? If so, here are some possible fixes. Any one of
them should solve the problem:

1. Install Windows XP Service Pack 1 on the ICS host computer.

2. Find the right MTU setting on the client computers, as shown here:

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-107

and then make the setting manually on the client computers, or use
DrTCP to make it:

3. Download the free RASPPPoE program and install it on the host
computer. Use it instead of XP's PPPoE program. Details at these
sites:

That didn't help. also i have a dial-up connection. but in recent day, the
network has seemed to fix it self. everything is 100% fine.
