ICS problem

hi
im trying to setup internet conection sharing (ICS) on my
home network. one machine is running XP the other 2000. Im
told this is not a promlem.

Both machines are configured correctly but i cant get ICS
to work. I've read in a couple of places that two network
cards are required on the host. i assumed one would be
enough because my internet conection comes through a USB
modem and not one that requires a network card conection.
Is this the case or is a second card still needed?

Many Thanks

This should be fine. You need to specify the USB Modem as the Internet
connection and the LAN card as the LAN connection.

Your LAN NICs should be configured to use DHCP. You only install ICS on the
machine with the USB Modem. The LAN adapter on this machine will
automatically get assigned the address of 192.168.0.1 /24. In turn, this
NIC will address the other clients on this network using a lite version of
DHCP.

(Lots of assumptions here)...
Assuming the USB modem is ADSL, ans assuming you have your USB modem
software installed on the XP machine, and assuming the connection type is
PPPoE, which ADSL use, and in addition to Dusty's comments about setting
this up only on one machine, not both, see if this helps you out:

What's PPPoE you ask?
