Change the default IP in ICS

When I configure Internet Conection Sharing in Windows 2000 Professional, the
NIC card that acts as the "WAN" in the setup is automatically get the IP
address of 192.168.0.1 and then Win2k uses the other NIC as the "LAN" side of
the connection. My question is can I tell W2K NOT to use the default
192.168.0.1, but something like 192.168.1.1 or even 192.168.0.2?

You may, but it is not recommended.

Just change it in TCP/IP properties. It works just fine, but you WILL have
to assign your other ICS client's IP settings manually, as the DHCP server
only works with the default 192.168.0 settings. (I ran my home Internet for
years with that setup).

I think Techmanblues has 2 NICs (Network Interface Cards) in his
W2K PC:

- a NIC #1 connected to the "WAN" (Worldwide Area Network),
i.e. through a 56Kmdm/Dial-up Connection, or through an
ADSLmdm/BroadBand Connection, to his phone line
- a NIC #2 connected to his LAN (Local Area Network),
i.e. through a 10/100 hub to the other PCs in the home.

What he needs is the *second* NIC on 192.168.0.1 (which Windows
2000 automatically and properly does *when the WAN connection is
a Dial-up one*). Then the other PCs on the LAN will need be set
up on getting IPs and DNS servers addresses from that
192.168.0.1 DHCP server.

But *when the WAN connection is a BroadBand one*, you actually
can open that BB connection, Advanced, check "Enable Internet
Connection Sharing", and configure your other PCs to get IPs
from DHCP, but it seems this doesn't work, apparently because
Windows in that case insists wrongfully giving that 192.168.0.1
to the *first* NIC (the one connected to ADSL/WAN) instead of to
the *second* one (connecting to the 10/100/LAN).

Thanks to anyone who could make this clearer (I am away from the
home where I have that problem, so I can't check right now, I am
reporting from memory). First, Techmanblues, can you check if I
understood correctly your setup and your goal?
