ICS not working after XP SP2?

I have two PCs sharing an internet connection both use WinXP Home Edition.
One is set as host via the network wizard and the other as client. The host
connects to ntl:

Before installing service pack 2 i could "see" other computers on the
network and share their files and also share the internet connection. Since
installing sp2 (on both PCs) the network doesn't work at all.

I'm fairly experienced with ICS and tried manually configuring the TCP/IP
settings (using static IPs etc) this allowed the sharing of files but not the
net connection.

I tried running the net wizard again, disabling the firewall completely,
doing a clean installation of xp then putting sp2 on top on both PCs but
still no luck. Eventually I removed sp2 and everything is fine again.

Any ideas what might have caused this?

Cheers,
Nick

Check your firewall setting on your network.
MS turns the firewall on by default.
You want a firewall on your internet connection, but not on your LAN.

Uninstall SP2, and wait for another 6 months, until MS can debug at
least 50% of the problems that SP2 will cause now. SP2 has been breaking
systems left and right, and the list is just beginning to get bigger.
SP1 did the same thing when it came out.

I don't remember the website, but if you search for "WindowsXP SP2;
Conflicts" you will find many issues on the firewall. One site I looked
that took you through each of the firewall settings. Sorry I don't know the
site, but you should be able to find it.... assuming it is the firewall.

Um, did u even read his post.

He DISABLED the firewall and the issue presists. So that would suggest there
is something else amuck here.
