ICS IP Address assigmnet in WinXP

Is there a registry key or other method that will enable to change the IP
addresses that are allocated by ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) from
192.168.x.x to 10.x.x.x?

Thanks...

There are no relevant registry keys, and there's no supported way to
change the address range. By [a bad] design, XP's version of ICS only
uses 192.168.0.x.

You can manually change the host's LAN IP address after enabling ICS.
However, if you do that:

1. It will disable the host's DHCP server, so you'll have to configure
the clients' TCP/IP properties manually.

2. There's no guarantee that ICS and the network will work correctly.

Oops, just noticed that is for W98 but XP is much the same, just look for
the registry keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ICSharing:
key: IntranetInfo, value: "192.168.0.1,255.255.255.0" and
Addressing\Settings to set the DHCP IP range

Those registry keys don't exist on my XPhome sp2 box (no ICSharing
sub-key at all) even though it _does_ have ICS enabled and working.
What's the corresponding registry entries there?

But maybe there's a better DHCP server that one could install and use
instead in XP? (It would solve my problem as indicated in another thread...)

Any recommendations?

What do you mean? As far as I know there's no guarantee for anything
with any of Microsoft's software according to the licensing terms.

At least I know that ICS with fixed IP works quite well as long as one
doesn't need DHCP. Only thing I've noticed is that performance is not
very impressive, and it can hold up network traffic for quite some time
occasionally (half a minute is seen even on an otherwise unused Pentium
1 GHz box...), which quickly causes trouble in the clients, so that
might be defined as not working "correctly" perhaps... :)

Here's a DHCP server for Windows XP that might do the job:

Good point. Let me rephrase that:

Microsoft doesn't support this configuration and hasn't tested it. An
ICS and network setup that works correctly before changing the host's
LAN IP address might not work correctly after the change.

On one occasion when I changed an ICS host's LAN IP address, the
network stopped working completely, and I couldn't fix it by undoing
the change in the network connection's properties. I had to use
System Restore to go back to a time before the change.

Performance is worse after the change? Very interesting.
