When I try to enable Internet Connection sharing I get the 'Error 2'
message. I wondered if anyone has found a successful resolution to the
problem. The error in my case seemed to be triggered after I put my
NIC into another slot and had to set up the network again. I have
tried the following:
1.reinstall modem drivers
2. upgrade nic drivers
3. uninstall zonealarm and antivirus
3. repair/upgrade windows xp pro re-installation
4. Enabling before and after SP1 is applied
5. Searching for a resolution on google groups (I am yet to find a
successful one.
I can provide some more diagnostic stuff:
When I run ipconfig /renew I get:
"The operation failed as no adapter is in a state permissable for this
operation."
Please note file sharing and other network operations are all working
fine.

When I try to enable DCHP service I get:
"could not start the dhcp client on local computer.
Error 1068: The dependancy service or group could not start."

So all in all its a sorry tale! I wonder if anyone has ever found a
successful resolution to this error.
Thanks

Searching for an answer to the same problem and this reply gave me
clue. In my case the ICS and DHCP client services were both disable
(probably by me in an earlier life). Setting these to automatic an
starting them fixed the inability to share the connection. So at leas
I can tell you if you fix the 1068 you will most likely fix your rea
problem.

Sorry can't tell you why you get the 1068 thoug

I was having that very same problem, and I tried everything I could com
up with for about two days. Finally today I opened the case, and move
the two nics to new slots, and did an install of XP again (not th
overwrite). And ICS enabled on my first try after that
