I hope someone knows what is causing this. So far there have not been any
replies, positive or negative

I have a Sony Vaio, WinXP Home Edition (factory installed) SP2. I turn the
computer off every night, and at times (not all the time) when restarting
the
next morning the desktop icons fail to install, and the bar across the
bottom with Start, the time ect. isn't there.
I can turn the computer off, back on and the desktop icons will appear when
it reboots. Sometimes it takes a couple of restarts (reboots). What's
causing this. I have a firewall, virus protection, ad-aware, S&Destroy,
ect.
The computer is clean. This sure has me baffled. Can someone help with an
answer?

Hi Bob, fraid I can't help, but if it's any consolation I have the same
problem and I have noticed a few others too with the problem ... but no one
has given any explanation yet. A mystery huh! One day I got up at 3am to
sort the problem and I stayed until 5pm trying to catch out my computer and
click on an icon to get it functioning before they all disappeared. I don't
know exactly what I did, but for about 2 hours it was back to normal ... then
out of the blue, it froze and the icons disappeared along with the taskbar.
I am having no luck this time. I am gutted.
