Icons: Some are now generic

I'm running XP Pro. The desktop .pdf and .doc icons are now generic.
Associations are correct and when I double click them the correct program
opens them. Recently, I had had trouble getting a software installation to
work and have spent days delecting files, downloading fixes, updating files,
etc. I may have done something XP doesn't like.

Locate, download and install the Powertoys for XP TweakUI module.
There is a Rebuild Icons option in the Repair section.

I had tried that (based on someone else's posted icon problem) but that
didn't work.
