Icon Problem

The problem is that not all of the icons on my desktop are correctly
displayed. About 5 of them are the generic Windows icon and the rest are
correct. I can get the correct icon to appear by right-clicking on the
generic icon and then selecting Change Icon and then by selecting the correct
icon. The problem is that the next time I restart my computer it will have
the generic Windows icon again. How do I fix the problem?

PS: I have scanned my computer for viruses and adware and that is not the
problem.

The Shell IconCache has probably become corrupted. If you wipe it out
and force Windows to rebuild it, that should fix the problem. The
easiest way to do that is to use TweakUI and select the last item in the
list that it displays.
