Icons n/a or corrupted after software installation

After installing certain programs, Adobe Photoshop CS2 for example, the icon
that appears under All Programs are not those of the program's but are
replaced with generic shortcut icons. Although I attempted to change it
manually via the shortcut properties, I couldn't get to it as a dialog pops
up saying 'Unable to save changes to <shortcut>.lnk . Access is denied'. Any
way around this problem?

I had a same problem, right click on the corrupted icon and to to properties;
copy and paste the target, withtouth "__" (C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash
8\Flash.exe); click on change icon and ignore all the warnings; now browse
and than paste on file name, and vola!!
