Icons in "my Documents" changing -why?

For some reason icons for some different items I have saved in "my
documents" have changed. I can still open and view the items just fine but
many of the icons are now ad-aware icons, avast icons, windows messenger
icons, zone alarm icons, various different icons -no rhyme or reason to
what they are and none of them are what they should be.
At times when I check my documents they're back to normal -what they
should be- then they revert back to "whatever" icons.
This happened after I updated Microsoft office 2003 sp 3 and added ad aware
2007. I have since unistalled the ad aware 2007 thinking that was the
problem but app. it's not. Ran virus and spyware scans, everything there is
coming up clean.
What gives ?

Rebuild your Icon Cache:

Right-click Desktop->Properties->Appearance Tab->Advanced Button
In the "Item" window, select "Icon"
Make the "Item Size" one bigger and "OK" your way out.

This forces a rebuild of your icon cache.

Repeat the process, making the icon size one less to return to normal.

Try this - go to this page, d/l iconcache.txt and change it to .reg

Very cool and the easiest way to change your cache size.

To rebuild Icon Cache, just get TweakUI for XP and repair icons. Lots
of handy stuff in Tweak.

What/ where is d/l iconcache.txt? Also, there are two "tweak UI " options
on that powertoy page, not sure which to use ?

I did what John said to do for it seemed the quickest and easiest and the
problem is resolved. HOWEVER, now when I go to open a photo in my documents
it will not open in photoshop automatically for me to downsize , etc. The
menu bar at the top is like my IE 6 menu bar and not the photshop bar.
Did this changing of the icon size cause this ? I have to go an extra
step and say " open with Adobe photoshop first to work with a picture vs. it
doing it automatically.
