Changed icons in System32 with new program?

Not sure if this is a big deal or not, but this has happened several times.
Happened once with NERO, but I deleted that program awhile back. Current
problem is I installed a software I use for logging automotive parameters.
This program uses .log and has it s own "icon". I go to Windows, systems
folders, and there are lots of .log files there. Now all of them have changed
there Icons to this new software icon because I only have 1 extension for
opening ".log" files. So is this a concern that system icons are now this
"xyz" new program Icon? I tried adding a new file .ext for this program, but
I couldnt figure it out. I would like to change back to the original system
Icons for all its .log fiiles, and maintain my software icon for that program
only.

Any ideas............or is this nothing to be concerned about....just
annoying.

Nothing to be concerned about- your auto program saves the file as a .log
and Windows and plenty of other programs also save files as .log. The only
problem you might have (and it isn't really a problem, just a couple extra
mouse clicks) is if Windows logs were set to default open with, say,
notepad, now they'll try to open with your auto program. If that's the case,
right-click on the file and pick 'open with. . .' and choose the program you
want. Most users aren't looking at .log files anyhow unless asked to by tech
support, so it's not a big deal, IMHAWO.

Great, as I suspected. So is there away to change the ICON in the System
folders back to "notepad" yet maintain the ICON for the auto program?

There's no way that I know of to use two different icons for the same file
type. Is there any other file extension that the data logger can use?

Well, good point. I tried going to "file" ext in explorer and tried adding a
new ext called .log2 and .lgw Then I went to the program and clicked "open
file" and the one I changed too it didnt show up as a usable file. So I
guess, no. I need to read up more on "file-ext" and see what is a legit
format. I am thinking that .xxxx is too many letters. However, the LOG2 did
take. But that didnt help changing them as separate.

Another option is to puurchase one of these Icon software programs. I tried
one last night, and it worked for the one I did. Went to do more, and they
said 3 was my limit, and I needed to purchase it for $20 ha..ha.. So I quit.

Can you set the file extension in the logger program's "Save as. . "? I had
an Equus that I could download stored data from, and IIRC, I could put any
extension I wanted on it. Since that was the only program that used it, the
files were always there when I did File...Open from within it. It's been
quite a while since I've used it, though. I might be mistaken.

I can help to do whatever you want with file extensions, the
right way.

LOG files are system files. The icon for them is irrelevant.

Just decide exactly what you want and I'll give you easy
instructions.
