All of the icons on my desktop and for any files in any folder on my hard
drive (when viewing by icons or details) have been changed to a default
windows icon. Even folders show this default windows icon instead of the
yellow file folder icon. I can reset some of them by going to the properties
of the file/shortcut and changing the icon back to what it should be, but I
don't want to do this for every single file on my hard drive (and it doesn't
work for the folders).

Does anyone have any idea why this happened and how i can reset it?

Thanks-

Marty

There is no way for us to know what you did on your computer. Try
running MVP Doug Knox's .lnk association fix here:

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

If that doesn't work, perhaps do a System Restore to before the problem
occurred. And of course, make sure your computer is virus/malware-free:

Marty,

Try TweakUI ("Repair icons" function)
