Icons are missing, but text remains

The icon pictures have dissapeared, but the text for the icons remains.
Clicking on the text operates the icons normally. Start menu shows a black
area where items should be, except for "All Programs" and "Log Off" and "Turn
Off Computer". Quick launch icons pictures are not visible, but the buttons
remain. Other users do not experience this problem. What can I do to
correct this problem? Thank you for your help.
