Icons are missing, but text remains - another question

I read the replies to the 'Icons are missing, but text remains' in an earlier
thread.

Before I try the remedies, would they apply in this case:

System would not boot past the Windows startup screen. I went into Safe
mode and removed the Nvidia graphics card from Device Manager, rebooted and
the system reinstalled the card and worked fine until I rebooted when it
would not get past the startup screen again.

I downloaded the latest drivers from the Nvidia site and installed them.

The system is booting properly now. But, some of the desktop icons are
missing - not all of them - and the text remains. Ditto on the Start menu,
and in Control Panel. The programs all work.

The desktop background picture is pixelated - not sure if it was before.

The mouse occasionally has a following of very small dots!

Thanks

Sounds like you might still have driver problems. IMO
remove/reinstall them one more time, from Safe Mode.
Uninstall/reinstall any control panel or other
supporting software you use for settings, especially
any Advanced settings.
Be certain you have THE exact drivers you need,
straight from NVIDIA. On my fx5200 I can't use the
latest drivers for some reason; so went back a rev and
all was fine.

IMO: You shouldn't have started a new thread: You
lost all the references and information that
accompanied your problem by doing so. You should have
simply posted again under your original, first post, as
a followup. Then it would have all stayed together for
anyone else having the same problem. Too late now, but
next time ...
